Introduction

Asker-I is an AI-powered question generator that can read materials of up to 100,000 characters and help you quickly generate high-quality questions. With Asker-I, you can add multiple tasks at once and customize each task to generate a complete set of exam questions with minimal manual effort in a short period.

Before using Asker-I, it's important to differentiate between "exploratory questions" and "interrogative questions." Asker-I supports generating both types of questions. Here's how they differ:

  • Exploratory Questions: Suppose you upload a piece of material. Exploratory questions are designed under the assumption that the content of the material is correct. These questions are intended to assess the student's understanding and mastery of the material. They have standard answers, which are based on statements within the material. This is the most common type of question.

  • Interrogative Questions: Suppose you upload a piece of material, and you cannot be sure of the accuracy of the content. Interrogative questions are designed to challenge certain points within the material. These questions do not have standard answers and require the author of the material to respond. This type of question is useful in scenarios such as reviewing student papers or rebutting arguments in a debate.

The following example can help you understand the difference between these two types of questions:
Suppose the uploaded material is material.docx, which contains the statement: "The net search volume for the 8th rank is 18 per month, while the net search volume for the 2nd rank is 160 per month."

An example of an exploratory question would be:
Based on the information provided, what is the difference between the net search volume of the 8th rank and the 2nd rank? (Single choice)
A. 142
B. 160
C. 18
D. Cannot be determined

An example of an interrogative question would be:
How was the net search volume data mentioned in the article obtained, and can you explain the overall search traffic trend?

How to use

1. Upload a material or add a title

First, you need to provide some materials as a basis for questioning, such as a paper, a textbook, etc. You have several options for submitting these materials:

  • 1. Upload files in supported formats (.txt, .docx, .pdf);
  • 2. Directly add a topic and enter the material in the input box;
  • 3. Simply specify a general direction for the topic, and Asker-I will generate questions based on its built-in knowledge.
The following three images will showcase these three methods respectively.

2. Add tasks and customize each task

After adding materials, you will see several buttons, each corresponding to a different type of question. The "question the content" button is for posing interrogative questions, while the other buttons correspond to various common exploratory questions. Clicking a button will create a task block for that specific type of question.

For instance, if I want to create around this topic 5 multiple-choice questions, 5 multiple-response questions, 3 fill-in-the-blank questions, and 3 short-answer questions, it would look like:

create tasks

Each task is customizable; simply click on the desired task block and adjust the settings on the right. Thus, if you want to create 10 multiple-choice questions around "Burrito" , with 5 questions exploring its historical and cultural background and another 5 focusing on its preparation and flavor, you can add two multiple-choice task blocks and configure each one accordingly like:

3. Now create!

Take a break and enjoy a cup of coffee!

4. Export your results

The results will be displayed at the bottom of the webpage. Exploratory questions will appear on green cards, while interrogative questions will be shown on yellow cards. You can copy each card individually; whether the answers and explanations are included depends on whether they are expanded when you hit the copy button. You can also export all cards as a file —— don't forget to give your test a title!
